InPress... Advertisement

Today our group met to start designing our advertisement to go into Creative Review, here are some notes that Francesca took during our meeting.

We started by deciding what kind of advertising space we wanted to use. We reviewed our yearly budget that we did with Bridget, and found that we left £2,000 a year for promotion in a studio consisting of four designers.

Our final decision was to buy a space on the photo card page, this is sized 71mm high x 106mm wide and would cost us £500 which is only quarter of our yearly budget. We felt this was good value for money as it is double sided and has perforated edges, allowing the viewer to keep the ad.

As we have to include our ten services we initially thought that it would be good to design some tabs at the top.

...on second thought it looks terrible, so we scrapped that idea.

Niall got on with designing our studios logo and got the colour scheme down. He also worked on our initial design for the front of our ad.

We decided to keep the front simple, using basic imagery accompanied by our logo. All information, including our slogan and services will go on the reverse of the ad.

During designing our press ad we came across an existing Leeds based studio called Design Project to take influence from. We really like how they present themselves and as a studio we would want to produce similar work to them. We also like how they have shortened their services into a paragraph. We want to do this as opposed to just presenting our ten services in bullet point form.

As they are Leeds based we are going to contact them to see if we can visit their studio. We also intend on contacting Catalogue, as they are a Leeds based studio set up by two graduates off of our course.

We are going to meet again on Monday to design the back of the ad and finalise the front.
